Function

Two groups of sensors continually determine the distance between the sensor and the object beneath it. A passing vehicle produces a typical height profile as described in the picture below.

By analyzing the collected information in a specially developed pattern-recognition process vehicle can be unequivocally distinguished from other objects. In addition, the two sensor groups permit a reliable recognition of the direction into which a vehicle drives and can even differentiate two vehicles driving closely behind one another. Two neighboring sensors synchronize each other via a direct connection, so that measurement errors are avoided.

The detection of a vehicle is in real-time and not invariant with respect to direction. The information can be sent to the counting device via two relays or a serial interface. In this case information on the fail-safe internal counting values and the sensor, status is also transmitted.

Installation

The drive-through vehicle sensor is installed like a common fluorescent lamp to the ceiling, parallel to and 2-3 meters off the ground. If the ceiling is higher the sensor must be suspended to a height smaller then 3 meters. The passage must be so conceived that vehicles can be detected by the sensor.

Connection

The sensor has two cable entries for the power cables (230V, 115V) and data cables (data will be transmitted via serial interface or two relays).
